The 2018 Mtb Marathon World Championships will take place on Saturday 15th September in Auronzo di Cadore and is reserved for the Elite athletes called in by their respective national teams. The race courses are 113 km long with 4,500 m difference in altitude (Men race) and 98 km long with 3,600 m difference in altitude (Women race).
The Marathon World Championships will be supplemented by the 3Epic Mtb Marathon, which takes place the following Sunday, 16th September, and has been conceived for the amateurs.
Three race courses have been designed to give them all the chance to participate in and experience the atmosphere of the World Championships:
Lavaredo90: 91 km long with 3,100 m difference in altitude; Misurina70: 76 km long with 1,950 m difference in altitude; Cadini60: 65 km long with 1,590 m difference in altitude.
The 3EPICA – which has been designed on this latter race course – is the event dedicated to Mountain Bike Vintage in the year of the Marathon World Championships, at the foot of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, and in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Great War, when soldiers on a bicycle appeared for the first time.
Description of the World Championships race course
The starting point is from the Palaghiaccio of Auronzo in the new outside area; then you ride on the main road up to the dam, in order to circumnavigate the lake, and get back to palaghiaccio. For most part, the World Championships race course is the same as the 3Epic one, except for some parts and some climbs that are exclusives of the Men World Championships, such as the climb to Monte Agudo and the passing through villages. As for the rest, it is exactly the same.
The World Championships video presentation
The official video of the 2018 UCI Mtb Marathon World Championships is an emotional journey from Venice, Doge’s Palace, to Auronzo di Cadore, Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The World Championships originate right in the middle of the Venice-Munich cycle route, where Auronzo and Misurina provide an alternative opportunity.
Therefore, the combination with Venice makes it a unique sports event, with two Unesco world heritage sites which represent the majestic grandeur in the world’s art, architecture, nature. Venice will ideally be the institutional and representative event location, whereas Auronzo will be the technical race area.
